Hard-drive Recovery Software

without comments

The hard-drive is very crucial since it stores all the data of the computer. Since the hard-drive has moving parts i.e. rotating disks and read-write heads which also move, it is more prone to failure after continuous usage. Even after a computer hard-drive fails, it is still possible to recover the data off it by using certain software. These software are called hard-drive recovery software.

There are many recovery programs that are available for free on the Internet. Most of these software are provided for free by hard drive manufacturing companies. There are also many third party software development companies that have developed hard-drive recovery programs. However, the most efficient programs have to be paid for their features and customer support.

Hard-drives crash because of wear and tear and due to excessive mechanical shocks. Data loss occurs when the read-write head comes into contact with the rotating disk surface and scrapes it off causing bad sectors. The data located on these bad sectors cannot be accessed by the read-write heads thus gets read as corrupted data. Data recovery software recover the data located on these bad sectors. They also have maintenance routines that prevent formation of bad sectors on the hard-disk.

Typically, hard-drive recovery software take hours and hours to perform a complete thorough scan. Even after a thorough scan, it might not be possible to recover all the data. This depends on the extent to which the data has undergone corruption. If the data is very valuable and not recoverable it is advisable to take the help of a professional data recovery service firm. This service is usually very costly and should be sought only if the data is extremely valuable and worth the money.

When selecting the right hard disk data recovery software, you have to take many things into consideration. There are many freeware available on the Internet. And so unless you need all the advanced features that paid software offer, there is no point in shelling money. You can manage with free software. You should make sure that the software you are purchasing doesn’t have unwanted features that can bloat your system’s performance.

Once you have recovered the data, it is important that you back it up somewhere. These days, DVDs and even hard disks with high capacities have become very cheap and common. You can invest in one of these as a permanent back-up solution. You may also consider using USB drives as these have also become very cheap and come with good storage capacities.

If you want to download hard disk recovery software, try www.download.com. There are a large number of software available there and you will also find reviews about them.

The Best Anti-Virus Software

without comments

live.besttechie.net – I received a question via my skribit widget on my blog asking “what is the best anti-virus?” My personal favorite is NOD32 for a paid anti-virus and either Anti-Vir or Avast! for a free anti-virus.
