New Computer Essential Information

without comments

So you have purchased a new computer and are not so sure as to what to do next. Here are instructions…[This article assumes that your computer has Microsoft Windows preinstalled. Otherwise, you may have to install the OS manually.]

Check that all the leads of your computer are properly connected. Most new computers come with color-coded cables and terminals for easy identification and use. If you are not so certain about the leads, take the help of someone who is more experienced. It is always a good idea to ask them and know about the color-code yourself as it may be helpful in the future.

Locate the button on the monitor and turn the monitor on. In the case of some CRT monitors, the power button may be located under the screen. Press the power button on the CPU to start the computer. Most CPUs have two buttons–Power and Reset. However, some computers do not have the reset button. When you press the power button, the computer will start or “boot”.

As the computer starts, the monitor will go blank a few times. This is normal. Allow the computer to continue this process uninterrupted. Do not press any keys or power button while the computer is booting.

Eventually, the monitor will display the Microsoft logo and you will get the desktop. Your computer has started successfully. You can proceed to other things next.
